Which Scene Unit Scale Should You Use?

The Unit Scale setting (Properties → Scene → Units) controls how Blender interprets your measurements. Click a card to apply it to the calculator above.

1.0
Meters (Default)
1 BU = 1 metre. Best for characters, props, architectural scenes, and Unity game assets. The most common setup.
Characters Architecture Unity Godot
0.01
Centimeters
1 BU = 1 cm. Great for small objects, product design, or Unreal Engine workflows where 1 unit = 1 cm.
Product Design Unreal Engine Hard Surface
0.001
Millimeters
1 BU = 1 mm. For highly detailed mechanical parts, engineering, or 3D printing where precision matters most.

Decimeters
1 BU = 10 cm. An uncommon middle ground, sometimes used for mid-scale industrial or furniture modeling.

        Blender Units — Quick Answers

How many Blender units is 1 metre?
At the default scene unit scale of 1.0, exactly 1 Blender Unit = 1 metre. A 1.75 m character = 1.75 BU. A 4.5 m car = 4.5 BU. This is the most common Blender setup.
What is the default Blender unit scale?
The default is 1.0 (metres). Change it under Properties → Scene → Units → Unit Scale. At 1.0, one Blender Unit equals one real-world metre.
How do I convert centimetres to Blender units?
At default scale (1.0): divide cm by 100. So 175 cm ÷ 100 = 1.75 BU. Or set your scene unit scale to 0.01 — then 1 BU = 1 cm and you work directly in centimetre values.
What Blender scale should I use for Unity?
Use scale 1.0 (metres). Unity's 1 unit = 1 metre, matching Blender's default. Export FBX with Apply Scalings → FBX All. Your character will be the correct height in Unity automatically.
What Blender scale should I use for Unreal Engine?
        Use scale 0.01 (centimetres). Unreal's 1 unit = 1 cm. With Blender at 0.01, a 175 BU character = 175 cm = 1.75 m — exactly right. Export FBX with Apply Scalings → FBX All, import scale 1.0.
How tall should a human be in Blender units?
At scale 1.0: 1.75–1.80 BU (matching real metres). At scale 0.01 (Unreal): 175–180 BU. At scale 0.001 (mm): 1750–1800 BU. Use the calculator above for any other scale.
What scale should I use for 3D printing in Blender?
Use scale 0.001 (millimetres). Most slicers work in mm, so 1 BU = 1 mm gives you maximum precision. A 50 mm part = 50 BU in your scene.
