How to Get Your Time Per Frame

The whole estimate depends on one number: how long a single frame takes at your final settings. Here is how to get it accurately.

Hardware changes these numbers by an order of magnitude. A laptop iGPU and a workstation with two high-end cards can differ by 20 times or more on the same frame. Always run your own test render.

How long does it take to render a Blender animation?
Total render time equals frames × time per frame. A 10 second clip at 24 fps is 240 frames. At 2 minutes per frame that is 480 minutes, or 8 hours on one machine. Two machines in parallel halves it to 4 hours.
How do I find my render time per frame?
Render one representative frame at final settings with F12. The time is shown in the header of the render window and in the image title bar when it finishes. Average two frames of different complexity for a safer estimate.
How much electricity does rendering use?
Energy in kWh is watts ÷ 1000 × total render hours. A 400 watt PC rendering 8 hours uses 3.2 kWh. At 0.15 per kWh that is about 0.48 in electricity for the whole job.
Is a render farm worth it?
Yes when a job would tie up your machine for many hours or days, when a deadline is close, or when you need your computer free to keep working. Farms render hundreds of frames at once, so a 20 hour local job can finish in under an hour. For short jobs on a flexible timeline, local rendering is cheaper.
Does Eevee or Cycles render faster?
Eevee is far faster, often under a few seconds per frame, because it rasterises in real time. Cycles path traces for physically accurate light and takes tens of seconds to many minutes per frame depending on samples and scene complexity.
Can I use my computer while it renders?
Yes, but it slows the render because the GPU and CPU are shared. For long jobs, render from the command line or use background rendering so the viewport is not also drawing, and avoid other GPU-heavy apps.
How do I speed up Cycles renders?
Turn on the denoiser and lower samples, enable Adaptive Sampling at a noise threshold near 0.01, render on GPU with OptiX, reduce light bounces, disable caustics, and switch on Persistent Data for animations.
