Hex to Blender Color
Converter

Turn any hex code into the linear RGB values Blender expects. Copy a ready-made Python line, convert back to hex, or batch a whole palette.

Color Converter

#
Accepts 3, 6 or 8 digit hex, with or without the #. Paste from Figma, Photoshop or a brand guide.
Try:
-
sRGB hex (what designers use)
Blender RGB
(linear)
-
Type these into the R, G and B sliders, a node's color field, or a script.
Blender
Hex field
-
Paste into the Hex box of Blender's color picker. Blender converts it for you.
sRGB
(0 to 1)
-
For reference. Do not type these into Blender's RGB sliders, they come out too bright.
sRGB
(0 to 255)
-

Why Hex Colors Look Wrong in Blender

A hex code such as #E8500A is an sRGB value. It is encoded with a gamma curve so it looks right on a screen. Blender does its lighting and shading math in scene-linear color, where numbers are proportional to physical light. Those are two different scales, so the same three numbers mean different colors depending on which one Blender thinks it is reading.

Blender's color picker already knows this. Its RGB sliders are linear values, and its Hex field is gamma corrected, so typing a hex code into the Hex field gives the right color. The trouble starts when you type 0 to 255 or 0 to 1 values from a design tool into the RGB sliders, set a color from a Python script, or move values between Blender and another app that expects a different scale. A mid gray of 0.5 in sRGB is only about 0.214 in linear, so entering 0.5 into a linear field gives a much lighter gray than you meant.

This converter does that maths for you, in both directions, using the standard sRGB transfer function.

Common Colors in Hex and Blender RGB

Values already converted to linear, rounded to four decimals. Use the tool above for exact six-decimal values.

ColorHexBlender RGB (linear)
White#FFFFFF1.0000, 1.0000, 1.0000
Mid gray#8080800.2159, 0.2159, 0.2159
Pure red#FF00001.0000, 0.0000, 0.0000
BeingAnimator orange#E8500A0.8070, 0.0802, 0.0030
Deep green#1A3A2A0.0103, 0.0423, 0.0232
Off white#FAF8F40.9560, 0.9387, 0.9047

Mid gray #808080 is only 0.2159 in linear. That gap is why raw sRGB numbers look too bright in Blender's RGB sliders.

Color Still Looks Different? Check These

If you entered the color correctly and it still does not match your hex code, one of these is usually the reason.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about hex colors, linear RGB and Blender color management.

How do I convert a hex color to Blender RGB?
Divide each hex channel by 255 to get a 0 to 1 sRGB value, then convert it to linear: if the value is 0.04045 or below, divide it by 12.92, otherwise use ((value + 0.055) / 1.055) raised to the power 2.4. For example, #E8500A becomes about 0.8070, 0.0802, 0.0030 in Blender's linear RGB. This tool does the conversion for you and lets you copy the result.
Can I paste a hex code straight into Blender?
Yes. Blender's color picker has a Hex field that is gamma corrected, so a hex code pasted there gives the right color and Blender converts it to linear for you. You only need linear values when you type into the RGB sliders, set a color from Python, or enter numbers into a node field.
Why does my hex color look different in Blender?
There are usually two causes. Either sRGB numbers were typed into Blender's linear RGB fields, which makes colors look too bright, or the render uses a view transform such as AgX or Filmic, which changes how colors are displayed. Use the Hex field or the linear values from this tool, and set the View Transform to Standard in Color Management if you need an exact match.
What is the difference between sRGB and linear color in Blender?
sRGB is the gamma-encoded color space used by screens, image files and hex codes. Linear is the scene-referred space Blender uses for lighting, where values are proportional to light intensity. Blender converts between the two at the edges: when you pick a color, load a color texture and view the final image.
How do I set a color from a hex code in the Blender Python API?
Convert the hex code to linear RGB first, then assign a four-value tuple to the input's default_value, for example bsdf.inputs["Base Color"].default_value = (0.806952, 0.080220, 0.003035, 1.0). The Python API expects linear values, so do not pass raw sRGB numbers. This tool generates the line for you.
Can I convert Blender RGB values back to a hex code?
Yes. Switch the tool to the Blender to Hex mode, enter your linear red, green and blue values from 0 to 1, and it gives you the sRGB hex code. Values above 1 are clamped because a hex code cannot hold HDR values.
Do I need to convert colors for image textures?
Not for color images. Set the image texture's color space to sRGB and Blender converts it for you. Use Non-Color for data maps such as roughness, metallic and normal maps so they are not converted.
